When no one says there's anything wrong with something, I know there's some information missing. Everything is right for some things and wrong for others. I suspected backup was an afterthought for Tresorit, but one mostly hears nothing but praise for the service and little said about its limitations and when it isn't the right thing. And if you have a large tresor that you do not want to sync (as it consumes too much space), you can simply access it using the Tresorit Drive as well. If you change something somewhere, you will see the change in Tresorit Drive as well. Inability to restore to a point-in-time snapshot is a serious omission for a backup system. The Tresorit Drive is a virtual drive that shows you what you have in the cloud. Qualsiasi cosa succeda, grazie a queste copie potrete ripristinare i vostri dati direttamente dal backup. I liked a lot of things I read about them but to justify the cost of Tresorit, I'd really need for it to count as one of my viable backups under pretty much every plausible data loss scenario. Create copie di file, cartelle, server e persino di intere workstation con i backup online, così non rischierete che i file danneggiati o infettati da malware vadano persi per sempre. Either way, I'd lose the benefit of (near-)continuous backup, which is one of the major reasons I've considered trying something like Tresorit or SpiderOak instead of the nightly scheduled Duplicati backups to I use now.ĭamn. Yes, I could enable/disable sync as you described, but if I did it automatically, it could still result in a failure and if I did it manually, I'd need to do it. That means Tresorit would be a nightmare to use for recovery following a ransomware-type event. Just one of the folder trees I'd want to back up, with original and modified photos and other graphics, has over six thousand files.

You'll have to download old versions of every single file manually by hand

You cannot restore a snapshot of an entire tresor to a point in time. Thank you for such a clear and complete reply.

On the "Premium" account, for which version history is limited to ten, is there, or can I set, a minimum interval between versions, so a rapid-fire sequence of updates (e.g., by malware) won't crowd out all the useful history? Is it straightforward to restore a previous version of a file to a different location?įollowing something such as a ransomware attack, can I easily do a "point in time" restore of an entire folder or tresor? (Obviously, having to select a specific previous version for each of hundreds or thousands of files would be impractical.) If I have multiple computers and want to backup, say, the "Documents" folder on each - will Tresorit understand that they are different folders, they just have the same name (which I will not attempt to change)? Or will it try to sync the folders between all computers? The latter would rule out Tresorit as practical for backup. There are a few considerations for backup, though, that I have not yet been able to resolve. I know it is primarily a sync service, but it seems to be promoted for backup as well.
